Round trips from European cities to Asia's three hosting hubs, from Microsoft's published medians and WonderNetwork's hourly pings, with the physical floor and the cables in between.
The ping from Europe to servers in Asia is 145 to 190 ms to Singapore in Microsoft's July 2026 medians, 171 to 219 ms to Hong Kong and 223 to 253 ms to Tokyo. Singapore is closest from every European region listed. Copperstrait rents servers in all three at one price, from $143.25 per 30 days, crypto, no KYC.

Microsoft Azure: P50 round trip, 30 days ending 30 July 2026. It runs from each European region to the Southeast Asia (Singapore), East Asia (Hong Kong) and Japan East (Tokyo, Saitama) regions. Cities are the physical locations Microsoft gives for each region. Not Copperstrait measurements: We publish no latency or speed figures of our own: we have not measured them. Test from where your users are once the server is yours.
What do public ping tests show from Frankfurt and London?
Close to Microsoft's figures, and a little lower to Singapore. WonderNetwork pings between its own servers every hour. Over two weeks to 2 November 2026, its medians were:
Frankfurt to Singapore: 158.3 ms (hourly averages from 154.5 to 164.4 ms).
London to Singapore: 163.5 ms (155.0 to 192.3 ms).
Amsterdam to Hong Kong: 191.4 ms (191.2 to 328.0 ms).
Frankfurt to Tokyo: 230.8 ms (217.7 to 279.4 ms).
From Europe, a round trip to Asia costs about a sixth of a second, and Tokyo costs more than either southern hub.
What is the physical minimum from Europe to Asia?
About 90 to 106 ms, for a straight fibre that does not exist. We take the great-circle distance between city centres, double it, and divide by the speed of light in fibre. That speed is 299,792 km/s ÷ 1.4682, the group index of Corning SMF-28e+ fibre: about 204,000 km/s.
Frankfurt to Singapore is 10,258 km, so its floor is 100.5 ms. Frankfurt to Hong Kong is 9,158 km (89.7 ms) and Frankfurt to Tokyo 9,331 km (91.4 ms). London to Singapore is 10,848 km (106.3 ms).
These are calculations, not measurements. In Microsoft's figures, real round trips run 1.4 to 2.6 times the floor.

Fibre floor: 2 × distance ÷ 204,190 km/s, our calculation. Microsoft: P50, 30 days ending 30 July 2026. WonderNetwork: median of 336 hourly runs, 19 October to 2 November 2026.
Why is Tokyo the farthest when it is closer on the map?
Because the cables from Europe end in Singapore and Hong Kong. Frankfurt is 927 km closer to Tokyo than to Singapore along the great circle. Yet Microsoft's median is 235 ms to Tokyo and 166 ms to Singapore.
The main Europe–Asia cables cross Egypt and the Red Sea. TeleGeography lists SeaMeWe-5 (20,000 km, Toulon to Singapore, in service since December 2016). It lists AAE-1 (25,000 km, Marseille to Hong Kong, since June 2017) and PEACE (25,000 km, Marseille to Singapore, since March 2022). SeaMeWe-6 (21,700 km, Marseille to Singapore) is planned for 2027.
Why is Marseille the closest European city to Asia?
Because the cables land there. AAE-1, PEACE and the planned SeaMeWe-6 all land in Marseille, per TeleGeography. Microsoft's median from its Marseille region is 145 ms to Singapore, the lowest in Europe.
From Paris it is 162 ms, and from Frankfurt or Madrid 166 ms. A European office far from the south coast pays the trip to Marseille first.
Does a 165 ms ping matter for my server?
For managing it, rarely. For serving European users from Asia, yes. Typing over SSH at 165 ms feels a little slow but works. File transfers lose little if the window is large enough.
A web page is different. A new HTTPS connection needs at least three round trips before the first byte (TCP, then TLS 1.3, then the request). At Frankfurt to Singapore's 166 ms, that is about half a second of waiting.
Put the server where the users are, and accept the lag on the admin side. If your users are in Asia, host in Asia. If they are in Europe, host in Europe. If both, see whether to use a CDN or a server in Asia.
Which Asian hub should a European customer pick?
Singapore, unless the users are in North-East Asia. It is the nearest hub from every European region in Microsoft's table. It is also close to Southeast Asia and India.
Paying without ID narrows the field. In Copperstrait's survey of 33 hosts selling bare metal in Asia on 2 November 2026, 18 accept crypto. Only 8 had a server payable in crypto without ID that passed every rule of our price check. Copperstrait charges the same in each city: Strait 16 $143.25, Strait 32 $356.25, Strait 32F $828.68, per 30 days. See how much a Copperstrait server costs.

What is the ping from Frankfurt to Singapore?
WonderNetwork's median was 158.3 ms over two weeks to 2 November 2026. Microsoft's median from Frankfurt to its Singapore region is 166 ms. The fibre floor is 100.5 ms.
What is the ping from London to Hong Kong?

Which Asian server location is best for European users?
Singapore has the lowest ping from Europe of the three hubs. But for European users, a server in Europe is shorter still.
Has Copperstrait measured these pings?
No. We publish no latency or speed figures of our own: we have not measured them. Test from where your users are once the server is yours.
