What is the best server location for East Asia?
Tokyo for Japan and South Korea; Hong Kong for Taiwan. Microsoft's median from its Tokyo region is 11 ms to Osaka and 29 ms to Seoul. WonderNetwork measured 14.3 ms from Taipei to Hong Kong and 30.4 ms from Taipei to Tokyo.
Hong Kong is the compromise for East Asia as a whole. It is 49 ms from Tokyo and 39 ms from Seoul in Microsoft's figures. Tokyo is the better pick only when Japan and Korea are most of the traffic.
What is the best server location for Southeast Asia?
Singapore. Microsoft's median from its Singapore region is 8 ms to Kuala Lumpur and 16 ms to Jakarta. WonderNetwork's median from Bangkok to Singapore was 22.8 ms, against 45.0 ms to Hong Kong.
The Philippines is the exception. Manila reached Hong Kong in 18.6 ms and Singapore in 29.9 ms. Vietnam is close to even, but routes favour Singapore: Hanoi reached it in 47.8 ms, against 53.7 ms to Hong Kong.
Within India, Mumbai or Chennai. Among the three Asian hubs, Singapore. Microsoft's median from Singapore is 37 ms to its Chennai region and 53 ms to Pune. From Hong Kong it is 70 and 88 ms; from Tokyo, 105 and 122 ms.
Copperstrait sells no server in India. When most users are Indian, an Indian server is the shorter path. When they are spread between India and Southeast Asia, Singapore covers both. See the best server location for users in India.
What is the best server location for Australia and New Zealand?
A server in Australia, if the audience is only there. Among the three hubs, Singapore comes first. Microsoft's median to New South Wales is 95 ms from Singapore, 103 ms from Tokyo and 122 ms from Hong Kong. To Auckland it is 119, 128 and 143 ms.
In Copperstrait's survey of 33 hosts selling bare metal in Asia-Pacific on 2 November 2026, 13 sell in Australia. Copperstrait is not one of them.
Which single location covers all of Asia best?
Singapore, if India and Australia count; Hong Kong, if they do not. We averaged Microsoft's medians from each hub to the other places in this table: Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Pune, Chennai and New South Wales.
From Singapore the average was 48 ms; from Hong Kong, 61 ms; from Tokyo, 80 ms. The worst case was 95 ms from Singapore and 122 ms from both others.
Limit the set to East and Southeast Asia, and Hong Kong and Singapore tie on average: 41 and 40 ms. Hong Kong's worst case is lower, though: 49 ms to Tokyo, against 72 ms from Singapore. The two are compared in full on Hong Kong or Singapore for server hosting.
